Heart of Stone
A Doorway into Silence
A ruined world, long abandoned. It once
housed a
queen who was destined for tragedy and execution. Slowly crumbling, it grudgingly holds
onto its memories of royalty, religion and bloodshed. Yet it also offers the sanctuary
it was always known for, and the uniqueness of its location.
Stillness and Solitude
A world haunted by chanting, envy and fire. Standing since
early post-Roman
times, its inhabitants indulged in piety, but the resentment that lurked
beyond the trees finally swallowed them. Time turned to centuries, war
into myth. Consumed by flame, it now slumbers in the sunlight.
Two Castles
Wide open courtyards sheltered by high
battlements......Fingers of silk flee ruined windows.
Another where kings
are still crowned, its
stern face with spike-studded visor, frowns onto the bay it guards.
Yet the sun, undaunted, glides in to warm the balconies, while seagulls scrape
the walls with misty wing-tips....
Ottoman Opulence
Sixteen
shots of the Alhambra of Granada and the Alcazar of Seville. Taking its name
from the world 'al-Hamra', literally meaning 'red palace', the Alhambra is
probably one of the finest examples of surviving Islamic architecture in Europe.
The Alcazar of Seville was originally a Moorish fortress which later became a
royal palace. It is one of the best remaining examples of mudejar
architecture, where Gothic architectural features added by later Christian
monarchs may be seen, side by side, with the once dominant Islamic style.
